South Africa will be the centre of the world’s attention as the country hosts the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ for the first time in Africa. This comes with numerous challenges and demands on the country’s resources.

As it has been observed in past events of this magnitude, some activities related to hosting of the FIFA World Cup will have a negative impact on the environment. The Green Goal programme is thus aimed at identifying potential impacts, avoid or minimise the impacts where possible and compensate or offset unavoidable adverse impacts

Major developments such as stadiums and transport systems can have huge negative impacts on the environment if no mitigation measures are introduced during the planning and implementation phases of projects.

Thanks for our all fans for your support to our Team CHENNAI SUPER KINGS.
As the dream of three Year have came to end.. We did it..

MS Dhoni has added another feather to his captaincy hat. It was he who started the turnaround against a formidable Mumbai Indians attack, his deputy Suresh Raina capitalised on two dropped catches to score a crucial fifty, and Chennai Super Kings defended with aggression, smartness and flair to win the third IPL. Chennai were struggling at 68 for 3 after 12 overs when Dhoni got into the act: 100 runs were added in the last eight, and Raina scored 44 at a strike-rate of 200 after the first drop.

Suresh Raina scored a vital fifty, and took a wicket as well as a stunning catch in Chennai’s victory in the IPL final against Mumbai.

The win concluded a fourth consecutive one-sided knockout in the tournament.

I thank you for visiting my blog and voting there in my previous post…

Global Warming Solutions

December 8th, 2009 by bala No comments »

Even if we stopped emitting greenhouse gases (GHGs) today, the Earth would still warm by another degree Fahrenheit or so. But what we do from today forward makes a big difference.

Depending on our choices, scientists predict that the Earth could eventually warm by as little as 2.5 degrees or as much as 10 degrees Fahrenheit.

A commonly cited goal is to stabilize GHG concentrations around 450-550 parts per million (ppm), or about twice pre-industrial levels. This is the point at which many believe the most damaging impacts of climate change can be avoided. Current concentrations are about 380 ppm, which means there isn’t much time to lose.

According to the IPCC, we’d have to reduce GHG emissions by 50% to 80% of what they’re on track to be in the next century to reach this level.

Scientists and Web developers at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) have created a new educational Web site with crucial tips on how to prepare for and survive a tsunami.

an interactive guide that could save your life,” the site also features the latest tsunami-related science research and compelling tsunami survivor videos and interviews.

“Tsunamis can neither be prevented nor precisely predicted yet,” said site initiator Dr. Jian Lin, a WHOI geologist actively involved in tsunami research and a member of a US national committee on tsunami warning and preparedness.

“But people educated about tsunami warning signs can save their own lives and the lives of others,” he added.

A tsunami can quickly engulf vulnerable coastal regions resulting in widespread destruction and death.
