Oceansat-2 Launch form ISRO

September 22nd, 2009

The stage is set for the launch on Wednesday of the Indian Space Research Organisation’s workhorse Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) for placing into orbit the country’s 16th remote sensing satellite, Oceansat-2, and six European nano satellites.
The 960 kg Oceansat-2 will be ejected into a sun-synchronous orbit 720 km above the earth and its moving coverage strip will be able to scan the entire planet.

The orbit is designed in such a way that the satellite will cross Equator at 12 noon near India.

A global leader in remote sensing data, India has so far launched 15 remote sensing satellites, of which nine are still in operation.

Oceansat-1, launched in 1999, is still in service but will slowly go into oblivion.

According to Satish, Oceansat-2 has a design life of five years and may outlive this like its earlier version.

Oceansat-2 will be used for identifying potential fishing zones, sea-state forecasting, coastal zone studies, weather forecasting and climate studies.

Apart from the ISRO-developed 76 kg Ocean Colour Monitor (OCM) and a Ku-band pencil beam Scatterometer, the satellite will also have a Radio Occultation Sounder for Atmospheric Studies (ROSA) developed by the Italian Space Agency.

The Scatterometer, with a ground resolution of 50 km x 50 km, is expected to provide accurate information on wind speed and direction.

The eight-band OCM, with a 360-metre spatial resolution and a swath of 1,420 km, will provide information about a particular area every two days.

According to Satish, ISRO would earn an unspecified amount of dollars as the carriage fee from the European owners of the six nano satellites piggy backing on Oceansat-2.

Who will Win ICC Champions Trophy 2009

The Champions Trophy was the brainchild of Jagmohan Dalmiya, who was ICC president in the late 1990s. It had a dual aim of spreading the game to emerging nations and raising money for the ICC in between World Cups, thus enabling it to pump more cash into those fledgling cricket countries.

The first tournament, labelled as a mini World Cup, was staged in Dhaka in October 1998 and raised more than £10 million. The second, in Nairobi, was a commercial success although the crowds stayed away. By the time the 2002 event was held – and there was disquiet as it was so close to the World Cup five months later – the idea of playing in developing nations had been ditched (in fairness, options had already been exhausted) and as revenue-generation was the main reason, it needed to be in one of the main countries as this allowed the format to be expanded. In 2004 the jamboree moved to England and it became clear the format of group games led to too many meaningless games. By the time the 2006 tournament in India came into view, the event was under fire from some quarters, and at one time there were even hints that India might decline to take part in 2008.

Lets Predict the Champions.. Guess The ICC Champion for the Year 2009.

West Indies have no Hope to Win This Trophy (Considering this as inexperienced Team)

Bowlers will dominate the tournament…

On the Beginning day The Match is between South Africa and Sri Lanka..

More predictions are there.. But still, weather is also factor to predict the results..

Have you Predicted any Team to win this Match.. Of course South Africa is Predicted to Win this match..

A famous Numerologist SAI R. Arul Murugan predicted tht SA will win this match 100 %..

Not all alcoholic drinks are the same

September 17th, 2009

The type of alcohol you consume may determine how hungry you feel afterwards, according to an Australian study.

A study, published in the journal Pharmacology, Biochemistry and Behaviour, shows that while alcohol has a specific effect on the body, the additional nutritional content of white wine, red wine and beer also affects how our body responds to alcohol.

It suggests further research into the affects of alcohol should also consider what we mix with our drinks.

Research psychologist and lead author Dr Anna Kokavec, of La Trobe University in Bendigo, says to understand the effect of different alcoholic beverages her team measured the influence they have on the hypothalamic-pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis.

The HPA axis regulates fluctuations in the body, and is responsible for the synthesis of the steroid hormones cortisol and dehyrdoepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS), says Kokavec.

“The HPA axis is a system that has an input into nearly everything in the body.”

Kokavec says DHEAS and cortisol, commonly known as a stress hormone, influence our appetite and are associated with learning and memory formation.

“We need a sufficient release of cortisol to make us feel hungry,” she says

According to the study both hormones are affected when we drink alcohol, and that low levels “could lead to specific cognitive impairment if alcohol is consumed on a regular basis.”
